My name is Genia (pronounced “Gina”) Mills, and I am proud to call Monrovia my home since 2003. My husband and I purchased our home and raised our family here benefiting from Monrovia's wonderful amenities and schools. As a current Monrovia Community Services Commissioner serving a fourth term, and as a thirteen-year MAP (Monrovia Area Partnership) leader, I know Monrovia. As Monrovians, we are a community that cares for one another. We value our neighborhoods. We strive to ensure that children can feel safe playing outside, and we take pride in our outdoor recreational space.
Why I Am Running
I am running for City Council to preserve and enhance the things that have made Monrovia special. It took years of dedication and arduous work by its current and prior leaders and the community to become the unique place that we see today, and we cannot become distracted by the ever-changing political winds and lose sight of our core values. As a Council Member, I will keep the focus on our core values, and I have the community experience, leadership training, and passion to keep Monrovia progressing. Like other cities across our nation, Monrovia is not immune to challenges in a host of areas such as:
- Housing availability and affordability
- Fiscal health
- Public safety
- Meeting the mental healthcare needs of all its citizens
- Raising the next generation to be well-equipped leaders
I pledge that I will be a leader who will help address these challenges through a collaborative team-oriented approach, in which all perspectives will be respected. I ask for your vote on June 7, 2022.
